Luke Woods is a seasoned criminal defense attorney with over two decades of trial experience in Maryland. As co-founder of FrizWoods LLC, Luke brings an unmatched depth of legal knowledge and litigation skill to the courtroom, shaped by years as a public defender, private defense attorney, and Army JAG Corps officer.

A Career Built in the Trenches

Luke began his legal career after earning his Juris Doctorate from Northwestern School of Law and a Bachelor of Arts from Reed College. He served as a law clerk for the Department of Justice and as an officer in the U.S. Army Judge Advocate General’s Corps, where he gained early exposure to complex litigation and military legal procedure.

He then transitioned to the Maryland Office of the Public Defender, where he handled thousands of cases over the course of more than a decade. Luke’s litigation experience was matched by his leadership-he served as the supervising attorney for the Calvert County Public Defender’s Office, where he managed a team of attorneys, coordinated office operations, and maintained an active, high-stakes trial docket. His role as a frontline supervisor gave him insight into both trial advocacy and the broader strategy of managing complex criminal caseloads.
